Shropshire Icons - A History Group Activity

The subject for the 2026 Group Activity was for several volunteers to each suggest a Shropshire personality to appear on an English bank note. When all the presentations had been made, a vote was taken to decide which Shropshire icon most deserved to win. Follow the links to see the presentations.

Jane Caine championed Eglantyne Jebb.

Sharon Sheridan promoted Wilfred Owen.

Malcolm Sheridan thought that Edward German deserved the honour.

Mick Hobson liked Percy Thrower.

Peter Gould argued the case for Mary Webb.

Viv Jones suggested that Thomas Telford should be chosen.
