History

Status:Active, open to new members
When: 10:30 am-12:00 pm
3rd Wednesday of the Month
Venue: Archibald Worthington Club

The 'History Group ' is formed by a bunch of like-minded
amateurs who find interest in the subject. We follow a varied
agenda based upon topics that appeal to our members.
We follow the u3a ethos of life-long self-help learning where
members teach and learn from each other.
Occasionally, we invite external speakers to cover topics of
interest and provide us with inspiration. This year we have
had external talks about both Thomas Telford and 'Forbidden
Letters of WW2'. However, our normal remit is for members
to cover subjects both individually and within a group format.
This year, as a group, we have explored the 'History of
Foodstuffs' over several meetings. We plan to cover
Christmas Traditions ' during the November meeting.
Individually, our members have covered diverse topics from
‘The History of Palestine " to '‘Growing up in '50/60's
Whitchurch' to name but two!
In the more clement months of the year, we arrange trips to
local places of interest. This year, we have visited both the
‘Grocott Visitor Centre’ near Prees and Dorfold Hall in
Nantwich.
So if this easy going and varied approach to History appeals
to you, please come along and join us on the third
Wednesday of the month. You will be made most welcome.
